Edgemont Healthcare emerged as Harrison County’s largest nursing facility during the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.
Records show the facility provided 68 beds—10 more than the county average during the first quarter of 2026—and served an average of 66.6 residents throughout the period.
The CMS gave Edgemont Healthcare an overall score of 1 out of 5, falling short of the average rating of 3 reported for Kentucky nursing homes.
Harrison Nursing and Rehabilitation Center was noted as the county’s second largest nursing home for the quarter with 54 beds available, followed by Cedar Ridge Health Campus in third, offering 53 beds.
Edgemont Healthcare recorded $133,225 in fines from one violation and accrued two penalties as of the first quarter of 2026.
Altogether, three for-profit nursing facilities operated in Harrison County, Kentucky, during the period.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the nation’s older population is expanding while younger populations decrease. The number of Americans age 65 and over rose 13% from 2020 to 2024, while those under 18 declined 1.7%. The older adult population in the U.S. has grown significantly over the last 100 years, climbing from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.
A 2021 analysis found nearly half of adults in this age range—about 28 million people—might need long-term services and supports, with the study predicting that more than a third will eventually require nursing home care.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, said. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
