Frankfort Trails ranked as the largest nursing home in Franklin County during the first quarter of 2026, sharing this distinction with another facility, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported. Bradford Square Nursing and Rehabilitation Center was the other facility with the same capacity.

The data indicates Frankfort Trails maintained 100 available beds, matching the county average at the start of 2026, and assisted an average of 91.5 residents during the reporting period.

The CMS gave Frankfort Trails an overall rating of 3 out of 5, consistent with the average score for Kentucky nursing homes.

During the first quarter of 2026, Frankfort Trails did not receive any fines or penalties.

Overall, Franklin County, Kentucky, had two for-profit nursing homes.

Recent U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the U.S. older adult population is growing, even as younger demographic groups decrease. From 2020 to 2024, the population of Americans 65 and older climbed by 13%, while those younger than 18 dropped by 1.7%. The country’s older population has surged over the past century, rising from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 study found that nearly one out of every two adults in this age category—around 28 million people—will likely need long-term services and supports. It also anticipates that over a third may eventually require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
