Kentucky State University held its Tenth Annual Expree Student Research Day and Awards Banquet on April 30, bringing together more than 60 students to present original research before faculty, peers, and judges. The event was hosted by the School of Business and the Center for Economic Education and Financial Literacy in partnership with Expree Credit Union, according to a May 8 announcement.
The gathering aimed to connect academic instruction with applied research, helping students strengthen skills relevant both inside and outside the classroom. This year’s theme was “Linking Teaching and Research in the Classroom to Enhance Student Learning Outcomes.” Students presented work across a wide range of fields including agriculture, artificial intelligence, business, climate science, economics, education, technology, environmental science, finance, geospatial science (GIS), media studies, personal development, community development and more.
Dr. Abdul Turay coordinated the event with assistance from Dr. Amanda Fickey and Dr. Gary R. Stratton. Several students were recognized for their research efforts: Shristi Adhikari took first place in the research paper category; Emmanuel Obielodan won first place for oral presentation; Prabina Bhujel earned first place for poster presentation. Additional awards were given for second- and third-place finishes in each category.
Faculty honors were also presented during the event. Dr. Stratton received both the Teaching-Research Award for his integration of scholarly work into teaching as well as the Dr. Finley Helm Faculty Award of Excellence. His background includes work at multiple universities focused on economic development and financial literacy education initiatives.
Dr. Swagata “Ban” Banerjee was honored with the Scholar Award in recognition of his achievements through scholarship and creative research activity across several institutions including Kentucky State University.
Organizers expressed appreciation to Expree Credit Union along with participating students, faculty members, staff members and volunteers who contributed to making this year’s Research Day successful.
