Ages 12+ (Guardians should accompany children, but not write for them!)
$30 per person
Calling beginning, seasoned and all in between writers and want-to-be writers! Join us for an all-day workshop with author and 2019 Kentucky Poet Laureate nominee, Tony Sexton. During this workshop, you will explore Josephine Sculpture Park with loosely guided prompts to write works inspired by the place. Participants will experience a mix of individualized writing, group discussion, and Tony’s writing advice. This workshop welcomes any style of writing – fiction, poetry, essay, journal, you name it!
This workshop will be mostly outdoors. There will be golf carts available to transport you to different areas of the park.
What to Bring: Reusable Water Bottle & Snack

About Tony Sexton
Tony Sexton was born and raised in Mercer County, Kentucky. He has been writing since he was challenged by his 5th grade teacher to write a poem with the title “Compulsion”. The challenge followed him as he studied creative writing at the University of Kentucky and attended workshops conducted by well known Kentucky Authors like, Ed McClanahan, George Ella Lyon, Frank X Walker and several others.
Tony was elected president of The Kentucky State Poetry Society in 2008 and served two terms, He also won first place in The Georgia State Poetry Society annual contest. In 2006 he created a writer’s group in Mercer County called Nomadic Ink and that group has continued until the present. From his leadership and encouragement, 4 members of the group have published books of both poetry and prose.
Tony’s philosophy for writing poetry is to relate to the common man, “If I drop a poem on the street, I want anyone who picks it up and reads it to understand what has been written.”
Tony has one collection of poetry titled Scraps, published by Wasteland Press. And will have a new collection published next month. He has also been a contributing writer for The Mercer Magazine and columns for The Danville Advocate.
