Brian Hockensmith For President Campaign Fund issued the following announcement on Feb.3.
Unopposed, independent and non-major party candidates are entitled to contributions for the primary (or convention, for states that hold them) even if they are not involved in an actual primary.
Unopposed candidates must consider the date on which the election is held to be their primary date for purposes of designating contributions. Independent or non-major party candidates may choose one of these dates to be their "primary” date: (1) the last day a candidate may qualify for the general election ballot under state law; (2) the date of the last major party primary, caucus or convention in the state; or (3) for non-major party candidates, the date of the nomination by their party.
